'iPhone 5C' Case on Amazon Hints at New Budget iPhone

The evidence Apple is developing a cheaper version of the iPhone is piling up. Cases for the rumored iPhone 5C budget model are now popping up on Amazon from a San Diego, Calif.-based case manufacturer.

The Elago cases listed on Amazon — pointed out by MacRumors via Nowhereelse.fr — are described as designed with "direct access to all buttons and ports on your iPhone 5C."

"The iPhone 5C is a phone with remarkable design and it needs the proper case to compliment it," states the Amazon product description for the elago S5C Slim Fit 2 Case for iPhone 5C.

Early Tuesday afternoon, Amazon's product page indicated this case would be in stock in late August. But by Tuesday evening, the status had changed to "currently unavailable" and "We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."

We haven't independently confirmed whether the rumored iPhone 5C is in fact coming soon from Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple. But the rumors surrounding the budget version of the popular smartphone continue to arise.

On Monday, a new labor report described grim conditions at an Apple supplier factory in Shanghai, China, and claimed Apple is working on "a scaled-back, less expensive version of the iPhone." Additionally, over the weekend, an image of plastic retail packaging for budget iPhonessurfaced on a Chinese discussion forum.
